From 1999 to 2010, the awareness of the racial and ethnic disparities that disproportionately affect African Americans and Hispanics or Latinos has increased with only four percent, from 55% to 59 % . The authors found that awareness about health disparities remains limited in the general population and is even more limited among racial and ethnic minority groups, especially when it comes to disparities that disproportionately affect their own communities.
